ArtRage Fun 17 The Batman

I know I haven't posted much. I have been working one some web design stuff as well my own web/ graphic design projects. On top of that I been doing some on-site freelancing. It really does feel great to work inside of an office/ part of team again. Even if it was just for a short time. I love the feeling of being around artist/ designers. There is an un-explainable energy that comes off that fuels me for some strange reason to push myself. My focus becomes unmatched and I start to work extra-hard. I love it.

But, None less I have something I have to get off of my chest. I can not draw Batman. Not draw him in the general sense. But, I can not draw him to my liking. The greats say you have to draw a character until you own him. Meaning you can draw that character like no one else. The version you have drawn is not like anyone's. That character is yours and you are so comfortable, that you can draw him/her/it in pose any shot, any action.

I simply have not got there yet. I have drawn him several times and he still feels so hard to draw and grasp it bothers me. But None the less I will press on until I own this get this character down.

This batman is about as close to that feeling that I have got so far.

I am really starting to feeling better about sketching and drawing on the computer. Although it will never replace pencil and paper. It does have its advantages and several dis-advantages as well. I am still trying to get over those, However that may be easier that I think if I can get my hands on a cintiq. Those things are like looking into sun. You know you are not supposed to stare but you just can't pull your self away. I start to drool a little every time a see one and get very jealous ever time I see some one use one.

Ah One can only dream. Here is a quick 3 min art rage sketch. Just some random head shot.

Back with some of digital sketches. have been doing more and more digital sketching for the bases of concept, print, and full color artwork, but I still try and knock out a quick sketch just for practice.

ArtRage Fun 13

I haven't posted in a moment due to some procrastination, frustration with the job market, small projects that are becoming big projects and Midnight Club: Los Angeles.

But here is a new art rage sketch the I wanted to play around with a little more. This time want to play around with the felt tip pen in the program. It did not turn out great but adequate for what is was. I really want to see what I can do with the program. I wonder what what I can do if I had a cintiq.

From Concept to Creation: Hsien-Ko: Stage 3

Pencils

Well I should have posted this last week. But like most artist procrastination set in. So here is the next stage in my process. The Pencils, At this point I go over my rough idea in red or blue no photo blue pencil some time in 4h-9h lead. This time it was red lead. Once the composition is done and I am satisfied which I am coming to understand is hardly ever, i go back over it with a mechanical lead and tightin up my lines. I don't do a lot of spot blacks, but I do use varying line weights to show depth. After the line are finished, the pencils are then scanned and the clean up further in photoshop. so here are the finished pencils.

From Concept to Creation: Hsien-Ko: Stage 2

Full sized rough.

Well what this time around I am show you all the next stage. This is where I would create a full size rough version of the idea. I normally do this in non-repro blue or red pencil or a any pencil (3h to 9h) lying around. At this stage I try to go in as lose as possible because I never know if I cam going to make any change on the fly. I go ahead and add all of the detail in at this stage as well. I also add the representations of line weight along with the spot blacks. Which I hardly every do and or shadows which again I hardly ever do. At this point i make the decision weather I am going to color the piece as well. It all depends on the desired out.


Back with stage 3 which will be the clean pencils and will probably end up on my website.

Like Most Illustrator/ Comic-Book Artist and even some Concept artist of the day I start out with a thumb nail sketch of idea or piece. I generally do this for just about every thing I create. So this is the Initial Rough sketch of my (failed) entry into Darkstalkers Tribute artbook.

The Daywalker

Really not much to say just trying to get better digitally sketching and this is one of the one that I came up.



I am soon going to be doing some full flow work peices basically I am going to go through the whole process from thumbnails to the final pencils/inks/ digital colors or even 3d renders. I am going to try and utilize all of my website and social networks for this process just to see what happens.

So I broke down and finally bought ArtRage. This program is so amazing for something so inexpensive. I am so impressed and can not wait to try out rest of the feature.

I just went ahead knocked this out for fun. just to see what I can do with the program.
